Climbing the recruitment career ladder

With over 16 years at Search, Victoria Howard, Business Director for Search Accountancy & Finance, talks to us about her recruitment journey, her recent promotion to Business Director, and reveals why she chose Search to help build her recruitment career. 

Tell us a bit about yourself…

Hi, my name is Vicky Howard and I’m the Business Director for Search’s Shared Service Division which sits within the Accountancy & Finance team based in Manchester. I’ve been with Search for over 16 years and progressed from Recruitment Consultant to Business Director during this time.

Why did you choose a career in recruitment?

My career in recruitment started over 20 years ago, but before that, I had always worked in a sales environment. However, I was still searching for the perfect role and career and before I knew it I found recruitment.

I started my first role in recruitment as a Resourcer and quickly progressed to a Consultant and I’ve never looked back since. I thoroughly enjoy what I do and I consider myself very lucky to have found a career where I’ve been rewarded for my hard work.

You’ve progressed from Business Partner to Business Director in the space of a year, what do you think has been the key to your success?

It’s definitely the partnerships and trust I have with my clients, building strong relationships is extremely important in the world of recruitment.  

What does your new role as Business Director entail? 

I’m still very much involved in the ‘recruitment process’, from speaking to candidates, clients and making placements. In fact, these are the parts I most enjoy about my role.

In my role as Business Director, I am responsible for delivering high-profile projects for clients, nurturing existing relationships, and building out our Shared Service Centre.

Why do you think you’ve stayed at Search for so long?

The progression and development opportunities have been great at Search and have led me to build a strong career here. As mentioned before, you do receive a lot of recognition and we’re rewarded for our hard work too, through events such as the quarterly ‘High Flyers’ and our annual awards.

What would you say to anyone thinking of joining us?
